Who has a spare key
Note who has a spare key to the house. A name and a telephone number, and in one word the role: neighbour, child or trusted person. If someone also has a key to a shed, a garage or a storage unit, that goes on its own line, with the same two details. The list is there so that on an ordinary day and on a difficult day someone can be called who can get in. A name without a working number is half a line. Check the number when you go through the list yearly. Someone who has given the key back, you take off the list. An old name that remains sends a caller to a door that no longer opens.
Do not write down the hiding place of a key if that is unsafe in a note that invited readers can see. A stone in the garden or a hook behind the meter is then a route for everyone who may read the file. In that case say only that the trusted person knows where the key is, with the name and number of that person. The place stays with that person, not in the shared text. If the circle is very small and you still want to name the place, remember that the circle can become larger later. A sentence that is there once comes along when you invite someone new. Safer is the person, not the place.
A key holder is not a manager of your affairs and not the owner of the house. The line only indicates who can open it. It is not a power of attorney and not a levenstestament. Where the levenstestament is, if you have one, you note in its own place, not in the key line. Also do not put the alarm PIN in this note. That code belongs with the sealed list outside the shared file, or with the person who may know it. Ervazo stores the names you fill in and does not send them to a notary or a doctor. Two key holders are clearer than a list of everyone who ever got a key for a weekend.
A life file is a note for later. It is not a will, not a medical instruction and not advice. The key line appoints no heir and no executor. That appointment belongs in a notarial will. A codicil has its own, strictly handwritten form and a key name is not that form. Ervazo does not send the note to a doctor or a notary. Whoever has the key can open the door if that has been agreed. That person does not thereby get the authority to dispose of the house. The name and the number are the whole message.
