Two sources stay until you choose a field

An amount without a source stays marked as open. You do not set it to zero to make the line look filled, and you do not put a round figure there because the family names an order of magnitude. Open means: this field does not yet count as established. The item can still exist, with a description and a task. The figure waits for a document. That applies to a house, an account, a car and household contents. Anyone who nevertheless shares a sourceless amount in the amounts layer lets heirs read an estimate as a fact. Leave that layer off until you can say per item where the figure comes from. Staff see the open marking in the workspace. That is the honest state.

A house can have two sources at the same time. A WOZ decision with its own date. A sale with the date of the purchase. Both stay. You do not delete one because the other comes in. Each source keeps its date and its document. Only after that do you choose which field the source fills: the value on the date of death or the current value. That choice is an act, not an automatic consequence of the latest pdf. A WOZ from another year is not silently the value on the date of death. A sale after the death is not silently the value on the date of death. It can touch the current value. Note which choice you make and why, in a line that stays with the sources.

Do not average the two sources into a third figure. An average has no document. Also do not choose the highest or the lowest because that feels cautious. Caution is an empty field or a field with a named source, not a figure you made yourself. If the dates lie far apart, those dates ought to stay visible. A colleague must be able to see that the WOZ is of a named year and the sale of a named day. You do not use the Dutch WOZ for a house abroad. There the value stays empty until a local source is there. For a house in the Netherlands, WOZ and sale stay beside each other until the field has been chosen. After that the source that was not chosen remains kept.

Ervazo lets both sources with their dates stand beside the item until you point to the field. Ervazo records and calculates as a worksheet. The worksheet makes no average and it does not of itself move a sale to the date of death. That is not advice. It files nothing and it pays nothing. An open amount stays outside the addition you would want to read as established, for as long as you mark it as open. The program files no value with the Belastingdienst. The staff member links source and field. Until that link is there, the worksheet shows two documents and an open question. Sharing through the portal waits for that choice, not for the first pdf that came in.
