The health insurance after the death
A health insurance does not quietly continue for someone who has died. Report the death to the health insurer and send the death certificate with it if they ask for it. Ask from which date the policy stops and whether any premium will still be collected or repaid. Note the policy number, the date of your report and the reference of the reply. A premium refund or a last direct debit you put as an amount in the administration, with the letter as the source. Do not spend a refund privately before it is clear that the amount is for the estate.
A partner or a child who was co-insured on the same policy afterwards has a situation of their own. Stopping the cover for the deceased must not quietly take their cover with it. Ask the insurer what changes for the co-insured persons and from which date they pay premium themselves or need a policy of their own. That question belongs in the same letter as the report of the death. In the estate file a note is enough that the insurer has been pointed to the co-insured person, plus the date of the reply. The partner keeps their own confirmation with their own papers.
Care costs from before the death can still come in, because a hospital or a pharmacy submits a claim late. Ask the insurer how a claim after the date of death is treated. Do not invent the position of the compulsory deductible (eigen risico); the insurer has that. A bill from a care provider that does not run through the insurer you record separately as a possible debt. Put the date and the name of the care provider with it. Do not pay it from a random private account without booking that payment in the estate inventory. The invoice stays open until you know whether the insurer still reimburses it.
The basic health insurance (basisverzekering) and a supplementary insurance can run with the same insurer and still end differently. Ask about both, and also about a group contract through an employer or an association. That group contract does not always stop on the same day as the basic policy. Put in the task which contract you have named. If the employer withheld the premium from the wages, then link it to the wage statement so that a premium is not counted twice. A source per amount keeps the account and justification readable.
A health-insurance card in the wallet is a pointer, not a complete overview. Also look on the statements for the direct debit of the premium. Sometimes there is a second policy from an earlier year that was never converted. Report the policies you can point to and ask whether more stand in the name of the deceased. Cutting a card in two is not a cancellation; the written confirmation is. Keep that confirmation with the certificate, so that you find it if a direct debit still appears later. Until that confirmation is there, the policy stays an open task.
This is an administrative checklist, not legal advice. The notary, the bank or the body concerned decides what this file needs and in which order. Ervazo keeps the tasks, the letters and the recorded values. The program does not send the letters, does not pay any debts and does not file a return. For each step, note the date, the person and the document you have received. What is still missing stays an open task. A ticked line means only that the administration has been updated. A partner on the same policy needs a check of their own until the insurer replies in writing.
