Reporting a death to the SVB

The AOW runs through the Social Insurance Bank (Sociale Verzekeringsbank, SVB) and stands apart from the balance on the bank account. Report the death to the SVB, even if the municipality has already made the declaration, and afterwards check that the report has been processed. The body confirms what stops; do not invent an amount and do not invent a period. Put in the file the date of the report and the SVB reference as soon as it exists. A task without a reference stays open. You note the citizen service number (burgerservicenummer) only if the office wants to keep it in this file.

The AOW stops because of the death. Sometimes a payment still appears on the account afterwards, because a term had already been prepared. You book that amount as a receipt or as an amount that must be repaid, depending on what the SVB writes. Do not spend it as if it were an heir's income. Wait for the letter before you treat it as free balance of the estate inventory. Record the credit with the date and the counter-account, and link the letter to it as soon as it has come in. Until then the status is unclear, not finally allocated.

A partner who receives AOW themselves keeps a relationship of their own with the SVB. The death of the other person can affect that payment, for example because a joint situation changes. You report the fact and ask what changes for the partner, without filling in a new monthly amount. The partner receives their own post. Keep a copy in the estate file only if the partner agrees or if the document affects the estate. Two people remain two lines, even if they lived at the same address. A family story about the level of the AOW is not a source.

Other schemes at the SVB, if there were any, belong in the same folder but on a task of their own. Do not ask in one sentence for everything to stop. Name the schemes you know and ask which ones the SVB sees on this file. A recovery because of a payment after the death becomes a debt once the letter says so. You then put it with the debts, with the letter as the source, and you do not pay privately before it is clear from which account that must be done. The bank account on which payment was made is a different document from the payment itself.

A blocked bank balance says nothing about whether the SVB has already been informed. Keep two tasks: one for the report and the confirmation, one for the account and the credits after the date of death. In Ervazo letters and amounts stay side by side. The program does not send the report to the SVB. You do that through the channel the SVB prescribes, and you keep the proof of sending with the task. A credit after the date of death stays visible until the SVB has written whose amount it is.

This is an administrative checklist, not legal advice. The notary, the bank or the body concerned decides what this file needs and in which order. Ervazo keeps the tasks, the letters and the recorded values. The program does not send the letters, does not pay any debts and does not file a return. For each step, note the date, the person and the document you have received. What is still missing stays an open task. A ticked line means only that the administration has been updated. Do not spend a later payment as private income of an heir.
