Look at a csv import first as a preview
A csv import starts with a preview. That preview shows what would be written and does not yet write anything in the file. Only the next step actually stores the lines. Always use that order, even if the file comes from a familiar bank or from a previous file. Columns shift along without the headings calling that out loudly. A description that lands in the amount field, or a value on the date of death that lands in the current value, still looks ordinary in a grid. In the preview you therefore read the first lines field by field. If the preview is not right, you stop. The file is still untouched at that moment.
A wrong column quietly makes twenty wrong items if you take the write step anyway. They do not become twenty empty lines that ask for attention. They become twenty items with an amount, a name or a date in the wrong place. After that the file looks filled. A colleague trusts the list because it looks finished. Repairing is then no longer showing the file again. It is searching which line is still right. That is why the preview is the moment to check the mapping: which column is the description, which the amount, which the value on the date of death, which the current value, which the date. A column you do not recognise, you do not let flow along.
Keep the source file with the import and note the date of the preview. Write with it who has seen the preview and whether the write step has been done. If the preview has been rejected, that rejection stays in the file, with the reason. A next import starts again with a preview, even if you have only adjusted a header line. Mixing an old write action and a new file without a preview is how a silent error comes back. Do not copy amounts from a rejected preview to the portal. Heirs see the assets layer or the amounts layer only once the lines have a source and the preview has been approved.
Ervazo shows the preview before anything is written and afterwards stores only the lines that you really have recorded in that second step. Ervazo records and calculates as a worksheet. The preview itself does not change the estate inventory and does not count as a value. That is not advice. It files nothing and it pays nothing. The program does not choose the columns for you and it does not itself repair twenty wrong items. You approve the preview or you stop. The worksheet later calculates only with what stands in the file after that approval. A csv file on disk is not yet an estate inventory.
