Debts during life

Debts belong in the life file so that no one is surprised later. The mortgage, a personal loan and a credit card are the ordinary items. For each debt you note with whom it runs, and the amount on the latest statement with the date of that statement. Without a date an amount is a loose figure that may already have changed. You name an overdraft as a debt, with the same date. You do not have to explain why the debt is there. A reason quickly becomes a story, and a story does not belong with a balance. The reader must be able to see that there is a debt, with whom, and from when the figure is. More context is rarely needed on this page.

The amount comes from the statement, not from your head. A round amount that is roughly right is, for this list, an invented price. If the statement is not there, you write the creditor and that the amount still has to be checked. The field for the amount then stays empty. A credit card without a balance but with the company, if you want to name it, is already a trace. Put no full card details and no PIN in the note. Invited readers see the file. A PIN or a password for the bank's app does not belong there. The sealed list with such keys, if it exists, stays outside this shared piece.

This list is a snapshot during life. It is not the list of debts of a later estate and it does not say who must pay the debt. The file appoints no heir and no executor. An arrangement with someone that they will take over the loan later is a memory here, not a deed. If you want to record something like that, that is a conversation with the notary, not a sentence in this field. Ervazo stores the amounts you enter and does not send them to the bank or the notary. Go through the list once a year, together with the rest of the file. A repaid loan you remove, or you add the date of repayment, so that it does not keep being counted.

A life file is a note for later. It is not a will, not a medical instruction and not advice. The debt lines warn so that a reader is not faced with a surprise. They are not an instruction to pay and not a division of who bears what. A codicil has its own, strictly handwritten form and does not settle these debts. Ervazo does not send the note to a doctor or a notary. The figure stays tied to the date of the statement. Without that date the figure is not a fact and you leave it out until the statement is there.
