Cancelling the newspaper, the gym and streaming

Subscriptions continue until someone cancels them: think of the newspaper, the gym, a streaming service, an association or a lottery. Take the statements and make a list with the provider, the reference and the account from which the debit is taken. Cancel nothing before you know whether a partner or a housemate uses the same subscription. A family account stays in place until someone has looked at who still logs in and whether the payment comes from a joint account. Cancelling is the second step; the list is the first. Stopping too early can cut off someone who still uses the account every day.

The death certificate is the usual enclosure with the cancellation. Some providers have a form, others want a letter; use the channel the provider itself names. Keep the proof of sending and the confirmation. Put in the task the date of cancellation and the date on which the provider says the direct debit stops. Afterwards check the statement; a confirmation without a stopped debit is an open point. A debit that stops without a confirmation you note as well, with the date of the last debit. Only then may the line go to stopped.

A subscription that belongs with the home, such as an alarm contract, you treat as you treat the energy. First establish who still needs it, and only then cancel. The gym of the deceased alone can go sooner. A contribution sometimes goes together with a magazine or a small insurance; ask exactly what stops. You do not quietly transfer a lottery into the name of an heir. Report the death and ask how any balance is dealt with; the provider's reply is the source for that amount.

Yearly subscriptions that have been paid in advance can give a refund, or precisely not. Ask about it and do not invent an amount. You book a refund as a receipt as soon as it stands on the account, with the letter. A refusal to pay back is a note, not an asset you already take up. You do not cancel digital storage of photos before someone has secured the files, if the family wants to keep them. You arrange the access through the provider, not by putting a password in an open note.

Shop accounts and loyalty cards rarely produce a large asset and do produce a lot of post. Note them briefly, cancel what was clearly the deceased's alone, and let a family card continue until the partner has said what should be done with it. An automatic renewal in the coming month gets a task with the date that stands on the confirmation or the statement. If you wait until after that date, a further period has often already been charged. Ervazo keeps the list and the confirmations. The program does not cancel the subscriptions and does not send the certificate with them; that remains manual work per organisation.

This is an administrative checklist, not legal advice. The notary, the bank or the body concerned decides what this file needs and in which order. Ervazo keeps the tasks, the letters and the recorded values. The program does not send the letters, does not pay any debts and does not file a return. For each step, note the date, the person and the document you have received. What is still missing stays an open task. A ticked line means only that the administration has been updated. A family account stays untouched until someone has checked who uses it.
