Ask about water and the municipal connection separately

Water and the municipal connection are not the energy supplier. A letter to the energy company says nothing about the drinking water and nothing about the connection that the municipality, or a municipal company, keeps. In the file they are separate lines, with their own name and their own balance on the date of death. Look on the bill who the sender is. The sender of the water is often a different company from the sender of electricity and gas. The connection may have yet another sender, or belong with the same water bill. You see that only on the paper, not from the colour of the envelope. One letter is therefore not every supplier.

Do not disconnect the water if someone still lives there, for the same reason as with the energy. An empty house is a different question, and even then you do not give notice before you know which contract is running and who is authorised. For each sender, ask for the balance on the date of death and the name on the contract. Keep a credit and an arrears apart, and keep the period after the date of death separate. An annual settlement that puts everything in one amount is not yet a reference date. Ask for the position on the date of death if the settlement does not give it. Do not log in to an account of the deceased to download the bill. The letter is enough.

Make a separate letter for each sender, even if the address is the same. In each letter name only that supply: water, or the municipal connection, not both if you do not know whether one desk handles both. If you do not know, you ask it in the first letter and you wait with the second until the reply says that there is still another desk. Ervazo keeps the letter and the reply. It does not send them. On the task, put how many desks you have found, so a later reader does not think that energy covers the rest. A folder with one reply and three open questions is complete, as long as the open questions stay visible.

Water and the municipal connection each get a line, separate from the energy supplier. With each line belong the sender, the contract name, and the balance on the date of death, once the statement gives them. Without a statement the line stays open. This is not legal advice. The balance and the contract name are confirmed by the water company, or by the desk that manages the connection. If it is a municipal connection, the municipality confirms those particulars. Whether the amount is a debt or a claim of the estate is confirmed by the notary if the statement and the distribution do not show that of themselves.
